Privacy notice
This notice explains what personal information HorseBytes collects through this website, why, and what your rights are. We keep it to the minimum we need to answer you and to provide our reports.
Last updated 2 October 2026
Who we are
HorseBytes (horsebytes.co.uk) is responsible for the personal information described here. To ask anything about your information, email enquiries@horsebytes.co.uk or use our contact form.
What we collect
- When you send us a message: your name, your email address and what you write.
- When we prepare a report for you: the details of what you asked for and the reports we send you.
- When you visit: our web host keeps standard server logs, such as your internet address and the pages requested, to keep the site running and secure.
- Spam protection: to stop repeated automated enquiries we keep a one-way coded version of your connection's internet address for one hour. It can't be turned back into the address.
Why we use it
- To reply to your message (our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us).
- To keep records of the reports we prepare, including for tax and accounting (legal obligation).
- To protect the site and the form from spam and misuse (our legitimate interests).
We don't send marketing emails unless you ask us to, and we never sell or rent your information.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers that run the site for us: our web hosting and email providers, who process it on our behalf. We don't share it with sales companies or anyone else unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Messages: up to two years, then deleted.
- Records of reports we prepare: six years after the end of the tax year they relate to, as HM Revenue & Customs requires.
- Spam-protection records: one hour.
Cookies and other sites
This website doesn't set its own cookies and doesn't use advertising or tracking tools. Two outside services load when you view our pages:
- Google Fonts supplies the lettering, so Google receives your internet address when the page loads.
- Vimeo plays the video guide in the login area. We use Vimeo's “do not track” setting, which stops it recording your viewing. Vimeo's own privacy policy applies to the player.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or ask us to limit its use. Email enquiries@horsebytes.co.uk or use the contact form and we'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Changes
If we change this notice we'll update the date at the top of the page.
